July 2006 At some point I will update this page more comprehensibly but to give
you an overall impression my original aim was to come in under 10,000
pounds. Its now looking more like 15,000 and that for a number of reasons.
Going to town on the roof (wildflower meadow, leaky pipe irrigation etc)
added an extra 1,500. Putting on an 8 foot veranda, getting specially
made windows and doors, aluminium guttering, using raw wool thermal insulation,
using new timber, leaving the scaffold up for longer than I expected -
all cost etxra. You could put this up for under 10,000 but you would need
to compromise on the quality of some of your ingredients. As the Strawdio
progressed I got a bit wild and free with my spending, wanting it to be
really nice. If you went for a plain felted roof, a smaller vernada, second
hand or reclaimed windows and frames, reclaimed door and cheaper insulation
you might even get it down to around 7,000.
